Chiefly through saṅkīrtana, the intelligent people worship the Lord, black in color, but shining with brilliance, who is accompanied by his associates, weapons, and major and minor limbs. SB 11.5.32
By means of saṅkīrtana in Kali-yuga we take shelter of Kṛṣṇa-Ćaitanya, who is internally Kṛṣṇa and externally golden and who showed his powers by means of his limbs and associates.
Glory to Śrīla Rūpa and Śrīla Sanātana had this book written in the land of Mathurā, to make the tattva properly understood.
Their friend, one Bhaṭṭa, born in a south Indian brāhmaṇa family, separating the tattva from works written by previous Vaiṣṇava ācāryas, wrote this work.
Thoroughly examining the original writing, parts of which were in order, parts of which were out of order, and parts of which were incomplete, and putting it in a systematic order, an insignificant jīva has written this work.
The person who desires only worship of Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s lotus feet should only see this work. A curse is given to others.
To make this sandarbha on the meaning of the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, I take shelter of the mantra guru, who is the Lord, who is a bhāgavata.
Paying respects to my guru who gave mantra, and who revealed the meaning of Bhāgavatam, I desire to write this sandarbha named Bhāgavata-sandarbha.
May Śrī Kṛṣṇa, Bhagavān Svayam – whose existence as pure consciousness is defined in some scriptures as Brahman, whose aṁśa, the puruṣāvatāra, controlling māyā, shines with his expansions, and one of whose forms called Nārāyaṇa plays in Vaikuṇṭha – give prema to those who worship his feet in this world!
